Autonomous medical coding refers to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to automate the process of assigning medical diagnoses codes (ICD), procedures (CPT), and other relevant medical coding elements, such as modifiers and provider attribution. Autonomous medical coding technology leverages advanced algorithms to analyze patient encounter documentation from the EMR, extracting key information to accurately assign the appropriate codes. This automation aims to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and streamline the overall coding process in healthcare settings. Autonomous medical coding minimizes the risk of human error and ensures consistency in coding practices, contributing to improved healthcare data quality.
